We Believe

. . .That Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God who died for our sins and rose from the dead. (John 3:16)

. . .that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. (II Timothy 3:16)

. . .that every person has worth as a creation of God, but that all are sinners before Him. (Romans 3:23)

. .that forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust Christ as Savior and Lord (John 11:25, 26)

. . .that those accepting Christ should repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized into Him. (Rom 10:9; Acts 2:38)

. . .that the church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit to serve Him. (I Corinthians 12:12,13)

. . .that Jesus will one day visibly return to earth to be exalted as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (II Thessalonians 1:5-10)

History

Hope Christian Church has been in existence since 1951. Founded by Harold Blackburn, the first congregation of about 20 members was originally organized as the Fairview Park Christian Church, and met at the Masonic Temple Building on Lorain Avenue. In 1955, the name was changed to Westlake Church of Christ, and services were moved to the Westlake Municipal Building, at the corner of Dover and Hilliard in Westlake, while the new church building was being completed at 28370 Bassett Road.

The congregation met at that location for 48 years, adding on to the building four times to accommodate its growth as necessary. When that growth continued, the congregation voted unanimously in 2002 to purchase a 31-acre parcel of land at 32625 Detroit Road in Avon to construct a new facility. The name was changed to Hope Christian Church in January of 2003, and construction began that year. Services were held at Westlake High School during the period of construction.

Since 1951, there have been 7 ministers of the congregation: Harold Blackburn, Richard Hostetter, Gerald Finnie, Jack Lawrence, David Ladd, Charles Craig, Jr., and Tim Hanze (current); three associate ministers: Dean Rase, Paul Wingfield and Rolland Bryar (current); and one Worship Minister: Stephen Politte (current).

The mission of Hope Christian Church is "Helping People Find Hope in God." The church began meeting at the Avon facility in September 2004.

They fellowshipped together
They broke bread
They prayed together

There are currently several groups meeting. If you would like to become a part of a small group at Hope, please e-mail Rolland with the above information.

HopeLink is a 90-minute event where you can come and connect with others, and have the opportunity to form a new Hope Group. Hope Groups are small groups of 8-14 people who meet together regularly to encourage each other, study the Bible, and pray. HopeLink will take place at Hope Christian Church in the auditorium
